Why this viltrumite is probably Nolan's dad and not actually him.
A debate that's been floating around since season 4 showed us the purge directly is whether or not Nolan was alive for the purge in the show continuity.
In season 1, Nolan says that by the time he was born the Viltrum empire was already at its height and was the greatest empire in their home galaxy, while you might argue that Nolan doesn't actually say that he was born AFTER the purge here, this is within the context of him previously speaking on the fact that the empire was born anew in a newfound era of strength in the wake of the great purge so it follows that he was born after the purge.
People have begun to call this into question by pointing out that a viltrumite that heavily resembles Nolan appears in a crowd of Viltrumites before the purge commences. Some posit that this is a reused asset or Nolan's dad as opposed to it actually being him.
The thing is, we actually have reason to believe this is Nolan's dad because of something people actually use in favor of it not being him; the eye color. Some will argue that this can't be Nolan's dad because of the blue eyes except the eye color actually supports it being him, as they *aren't* Nolan's natural light blue eyes (akin to his mother's) but rather a grayish color that matches Nolan's dad's perfectly.
Another thing that people will cite to suggest that this is Nolan is that his pupils are present in this purge sequence as well, the issue with that is that it doesn't really make much sense for these kids to be the same as the ones Nolan tutors as they were already present for the purge which makes it unlikely that Nolan would be providing them with a history lesson if they had just experienced it. (plus the girl Nolan threatens struggles with remembering why the purge improved the viltrumite race which doesn't make sense if she was literally there).
Instead, we can argue that the kids in the purge scene are these kids's parents as well. And this isn't even a change made out of necessity because there *are* differences as two of the kids have different skin tones and hair colors in the purge scene than they do during Nolan's backstory.
As for a narrative purpose for having these be their parents, it follows as the whole point of the purge is that it's to gauge the Viltrumites' strength and ability to survive, showing us Nolan's dad and the parents of the kids he teaches not only parallels them but serves as reverse foreshadowing that these characters survive, because we know what their survival will lead to, just as we see Kradd and Vidor during the purge scene and it clicks that we've seen them before. ~~(hell, this might even provide an actual reason for why one of the kids was ganged up on just for him to be shown to have survived later on, it's a bait and switch where after the purge is over we see very clearly that his son *will* be born eventually)~~
