Spousal OWP with BOWP after AOR

Hi everyone, I’m trying to see if anyone has been in a similar situation with a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) and a spousal open work permit after AOR under Express Entry / CEC.

My wife is the principal applicant for PR under Canadian Experience Class. She received the AOR on April 10, 2026, and then on April 28, 2026 we applied from inside Canada for:

  • her BOWP
  • my open work permit as spouse, in the same submission

Our current work permits expire on May 29, 2026.

Someone told me that as the accompanying spouse, I may only qualify if my wife has a work permit valid for 16 more months, but at the time we applied she had only about 1 months left on her permit.

My questions are:

  1. In this situation, is the 16-month rule actually relevant, or does the spouse of PR applicant / BOWP situation work differently?
  2. If my wife’s BOWP is approved but my spousal work permit is refused, can I continue working after May 29, 2026 because I applied before expiry, or does my authorization end immediately upon refusal?
  3. Has anyone had the principal applicant approved but the spouse refused in the same type of application?
  4. If that happened, what did you do next? Restoration? New spousal OWP application after the principal got the BOWP approved?

A bit more context:

  • We are both currently in Canada
  • My wife is the principal applicant
  • PR application was submitted and AOR received
  • We applied before our current permits expire
  • We are trying to understand the risk for my application specifically

I’m especially interested in hearing from people who had a very similar timeline or who applied as a spouse of a PR applicant with AOR.

Thanks.
