Hey all, long-time lurker, first-time poster.

Just recently bought some high-end display cases for diecast cars (see example on slide 2), and am looking for some advice/reassurance on how to install them into a masonry wall. This is the idea I've had, just want to know whether or not I have either missed anything, and if I'm a moron.

The Problem:

The cases are from the US, so of course they are designed to be mounted in studs. Trouble is, these walls are double brick & plasterboard. Additionally, the cases interlock together from top to bottom, but the window frame to the right of them is going to block any attempt at that.

I had considered cutting into the window frame, but that sounded to be more trouble than it was worth, and would leave a very small likelihood of me being able to get it back to how it is now.

The Plan:

The idea that I had (and forgive the crude diagram I've made here) is to make a wooden frame which is ~10cm smaller than the final case on each side to effectively act as a stud wall. This will offset the case from the wall enough to allow each extrusion to be interlocked. This frame won't be anything extraordinary, just some ~45*90mm boards attached with glue and pocket holes.

From there, I'll just spray paint it black, and attach it into the brick with some countersunk 140mm Dynabolts. Then it's just a matter of mounting the aluminum extrusions to the frame as per the manufacturer instructions.

If I am forgetting anything important here? In my head it all sounds to be fairly straightforward, but I'm an amateur and I would appreciate any pointers on this. The cases and the models are expensive enough that I am more than willing to go the extra mile if it means things will be more secure and safe.

Location: Adelaide, SA.

Budget: Practically uncapped.

DIY (I hope)
