Just a few small questions.

Hello! I live in Missouri. I plan to go catch Rainbow Trout as a food source from the local wildlife area where they have designated fishing areas.

My biggest question is this; if I catch a fish within the first four minutes but plan to be there for hours, how do I store the fish until I’m ready to go home?

I was first suggested the method of putting them on ice until they die, but then I read that that is a somewhat cruel way to do things. I’m not interested in chaining them in the water.

My current plan is to kill and bleed the fish, then put it in a cooler of ice.

Am I overthinking this whole thing? I understand the irony of not wanting to hurt a fish when I’m fishing for food, but I want to do this the responsible way.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!
