Trading-In Cars

These are cars that I really, really like and would like to turn my own car into someday… but in my scenario, is it possible to take my first step?

I’m 18 and was just recently gifted a 2019 Chevrolet Trax LT. I’m grateful to have it, but while I do, I was thinking about using this opportunity as early as I can to potentially trade it in for something more my style. I currently don’t have cash that would make a dent in anything to “pay a gap,” nor do I have a consistent source of income.

It has a low-mileage of 28,000 miles and counting.
It’s a forward wheel drive (FWD).
Oil health is about 70%.
AC, coolant, and other mechanics/fluids are level and fully functional.

Right now it’s just your typical small, city-commuter.

So, what I was thinking about, was trading it in for something a bit lower to the ground. Definitely something a bit more sports-like, faster, and something that gives the whole driving experience more “punch.” However, I still want it to be able to have 4-doors, and handle slightly longer trips than just being able to go slightly fast. Cars like the Honda Civic Hatchback, Subaru Impreza, Mazda3, the list goes on. If you’re a car guy, you might get the idea I’m going for here; something I can modify and invest in for the future. It’ll start off maybe even worse than the car I have now, but in the future maybe something potential rally-looking, something I can mod with body-kits, and where I can show up to meets and fit in a little.

Any advice or tips? Is there really much I can do now with $0, a “sports mom” car, and a dream?
