My Old Reg Finally Lost Its Pip… So I Bought a U1
Finally decided to retire my old Regmariner from daily duty after over 6 years and picked up a U1 no-date before eventually making the jump to a VSF later on.
Not gonna lie… the Reg has been THROUGH it.
This thing survived:
vacations
cruises
pool days
ocean water
showers
skateboarding
random work abuse
travel bags
drunk nights out
basically everyday life for 6 years straight 😂
The pip finally fell off during a cruise recently, and I figured it was finally time to try something newer.
After putting them side by side in sunlight today, here’s what really stood out to me:
Biggest differences I noticed immediately:
1. Bezel
The U1 bezel is way cleaner and glossier. Numbers are sharper and the ceramic reflects light way nicer.
The Reg bezel looks faded and softer now, but honestly it kinda gives it a vintage/beater tool-watch feel.
2. Rehaut
Massive difference here.
The U1 rehaut engraving is MUCH cleaner and deeper. On the Reg it’s barely there and kinda messy by modern standards.
3**. Bracelet + Clasp**
The U1 feels tighter and more solid overall.
My Reg bracelet feels like an old pair of skate shoes at this point stretched, softened, broken in, but comfortable as hell 😂
4. Case Shape
The U1 case proportions honestly surprised me for the price.
Crown guards and finishing look cleaner than I expected.
The Reg definitely has that older rep shape once you compare them side by side.
There’s something cool about a rep that’s actually been lived in. The scratches, faded bezel, missing pip
all of it kinda tells a story now.
Funny part is regular people still don’t look at your wrist lmao
The U1 definitely feels like a solid stepping stone before going VSF though. For the price, I honestly get the hype now.
Curious what you guys think 🤔
