I went to an Apple Store today to test out iPads and figure out which one I’d like for starting my doctorate soon. My main takeaway was I always envisaged I’d take notes with an Apple Pencil, but when I tried in the store my handwriting was massive and messy and felt a bit unnatural.

So my question is, how do you actually write on an iPad and it look like your handwriting? Do you need a screen protector or pencil grip or similar so it feels like you’re writing or does it come with practice?

Can you either write or type or is there a case that makes it easier to go between as the Apple ones in the store made it seem impossible to go from typing to writing with a pencil?

Thanks!
