Had my appt @ the cardiologist office today, for my high LP(a)
I saw the NP, they called and offered me an appt for today, the cardiologist associated with the practice is leaving next month so I'll only be seeing the NP.
She said my high lp(a) doesn't require treatment, for several reasons: no family history, i dont have diabetes, i don't smoke or drink, i have a normal BMI and A1C, and low blood pressure, my pulse is in the 60's, i exercise 5 days a week, i walk 8 miles a week, and my EKG was "gorgeous", per the other nurse who did the EKG.
The NP said why are you here, i dont understand why your NP sent you here, why did you even get the lp(a) test, i said i asked my NP to order it when she was ordering my lipid panel, she said what did your NP say about your results, i said she's not familiar with lp(a), she's never ordered it before, she didn't know what to do with my results.
I said nothing i do lowers my LDL or TC, she said i'll prescribe you crestor and zetia but not repatha and i won't order a CAC scan because the ins co wont pay for it because of everything we've just discussed.
She rx'd me ezetimibe 10mg and rosuvastatin 5mg because i strongly advocated for them. The paper she gave me said to take both in the morning.
ETA: I'm 57yrs old and my LP(a) is 193. Here are all my #'s:
