Has anyone in Canada actually gotten a laparoscopic myomectomy?

I'm curious because it seems like the majority of them are done open here due to lack of surgical training even for MIGS surgeons in this country. If you had a lap myomectomy in Canada, I'm curious who your doctor was, where it was done, and what type of fibroid(s) you had? Thanks :)

Canadians who got surgery early through a cancellation?

I'm on an 8-12 month waitlist for a myomectomy in Ottawa Ontario, and I told my doctor that I would make myself available for any cancellation. I'm curious for any Canadians who got surgery earlier than expected through a cancellation:

- how long was your expected wait time, and when did you end up getting surgery?

- how much notice were you given for the cancellation?

- did you ever reach out to the hospital to check if they had any cancellations, or just waited for them to call you?

Thanks :)

Canadians who had a Myomectomy abroad

I’ve been waiting a year for a myomectomy and apparently have up to 1.5 more years left to wait, despite being on the “urgent” list. I’m 31 and this is putting my entire life on hold, not to mention I have about 5-10 good days per month where I’m not in pain, bleeding, or both.

I’m curious to hear from anyone who went abroad to get the surgery as I’m strongly considering it. Would be interested to know the surgeon you chose, the cost, your experience travelling, etc.

The surgeons I’m currently considering are Dr Rodrigo Ruz in Mexico City, Dr Dinos in Athens, and Dr Resmiye Ermis in Frankfurt. However I would be curious to hear about any other surgeons abroad as well.

Thank you!

I have a 10cm transmural fibroid (basically going through the entire wall and entering my uterine cavity), and want to get a myomectomy. Both times I mentioned it to my surgeon, he recommended a partial hysterectomy instead and his reasoning was the lower risk of adhesions for that surgery vs myomectomy. He said my uterus is essentially "destroyed". It does seem to be true that myomectomy is more likely to cause adhesions, but I also read that most adhesions don't cause too many problems.

Has anyone been told myomectomy isn't recommended for this reason? I'm only 31 and would really prefer to wait until closer to 40 before a hysterectomy because I've seen studies showing that removing the uterus can affect the ovaries and increases the risk of early menopause.

Thanks!
