Can someone explain why REAL data type can be used for safety tags in Rockwell Guardlogix and Schneider Modicon M580 safety, but NOT with S7-1500F ?

Since this “new” fancy trend promoted by suppliers/manufacturers such as CODESYS for Industry X.0 is the idea of running a virtual PLC in a container on some fancy server in a climate-controlled room far away from the field, has anybody actually seen it running in a real production setup?

Sure, lots of people have been playing with it at home or in lab environments for fun, but have you actually encountered a real production application running this way? And if yes, what do you think about it?
