So there was that low effort take by City Councilors Worrell and Culpepper to extend the Orange Line from Ruggles to Mattapan. But I noticed there were some comments and other people in different posts mentioning that expanding the Orange Line to Needham would be a better use of money for expanding the Orange Line.
I just want to understand IF the state were to expand the line to Needham, would it be simple? To me, I see it as just upgrading the tracks and stations so they are more capable to support rapid transit lines, and making the route safer for pedestrians and vehicles when they go by road crossings when they get closer to Needham Center. Would this also mean the Commuter Rail service for Needham will just be defunct?
I'm not very knowledgeable about this, but am very curious what needs to be done to make it happen.
