Experiences with digital twins in mechanical engineering?
Hey everyone,
I’ve been researching digital twins in mechanical engineering for work lately, and now I’m trying to make sense of the practicalities. In theory, the whole thing obviously sounds amazing, with the prospect of virtual commissioning, early error detection and improved process optimization as well as reduced downtime.
The visualizations I’ve seen are pretty impressive, especially with PLC logic and material flow already integrated, and now I’m curious to find out how extensive these models are in practice.
So maybe someone who’s already working within this area can help me out: How close to reality are your digital-twin-solutions really? Would you say it’s more of a glorified simulator with a fancy interface or does it actually live up to expectations?
