Battlefield in Ukraine
So, first of all: I really like the series.
But is this how Americans imagine the war in Ukraine? As a European who’s looked into the subject in depth, it almost seems like satire.
There’s a 30–50 km-wide death zone; you can’t just pop over there and back. In the series, the route looked as though everything was happening within sight.
The trenches are far too large and neat. In reality, there are no trench systems or bunkers like in the First World War, but rather a great many holes where small units can hold out and take cover from the drones.
What are these huge swarms of drones? Small drones at the front operate in small groups of two or three, not by the hundreds. Of course, there are thousands of them in total, but they cover the entire front line.
Nobody is shooting down drones in droves with a rifle. Shotguns and electronic countermeasures are used for that.
So I was really quite astounded at just how far removed from reality all of this is.
