45M Gay American/German - Is moving to Köln a good idea?
I’d like to hear other people’s opinion
I am 45M Gay American, I obtained full German citizenship last year. I’ve been on the fence about what I want to do.
I don’t speak German and know very little about the country. One path I could take is studying German here in America, working for a few more years and then trying to get a job near Cologne (Düsseldorf has several companies from my industry)
Another path is to just move to Germany now. Start navigating all the German systems/healthcare etc, take language classes and try to find a job.
One of those sounds responsible and one sounds irresponsible. One also sounds alive, and the other dead.
I have always heard that cologne is a very relaxed place to be gay, which is exactly what I want - no drama, no crazy parties, just go about my daily life unbothered, maybe get lucky and meet a nice guy for a relationship. Simple life.
I’m torn. There are days where I am apartment searching and days where I’m scared out of mind at how crazy it is.
Help me Reddit, you’re my only hope. 🌌
