Injured Common Snapping Turtle SE Michigan

I think I messed up in returning a snapping turtle to its pond, if it wasn't the right thing, is there anything I can do?

Story:
I was driving home on a different route than usual. The road I was on was a 55mph country road. I saw someone out in the rain in the middle of the road nudging a snapping turtle with a newspaper roll, and pulled over with my hazards on. I grabbed it and put it back next to its pond, then kinda don't remember much but I'm home now.

What i'm worried about:
Now that I'm home I realise the turtle was hit by a car probably, and I'm hoping that I didn't just leave it to die :( The injury was a shallow scrape on the top of its shell that was mostly white with a bit of pink, about one to two inches long (the turtle was maybe a foot long?). Is there any chance the turtle is ok, and if not is there any chance of finding it again? I don't remember where I was and it's been half an hour now.

Thank you for any advice.
