Fix up old Trek FX 2 or Buy New One
I'm trying to decide whether to fix up my old 2018 Trek FX 2 or buy a new Trek FX 2. I took it into my local bike shop and they said it would cost approximately $400 to fix up--it needed a new seat, new brakes, new cassette, new chain, new handlebars, and probably some other stuff.
I bike to work pretty much every day, rain or shine, and I have to leave it outside, so it sees a lot of wear and tear. On the one hand, I would like to keep my old bike if it's reasonable to fix it up and keep it running for a few more years--I always like looking at old bikes and having one that's not a target for bike thieves is attractive. On the other hand, if I can get a better, newer bike for close to the same price, I think I'd prefer that. Any advice on how to think through the problem would be appreciated!
