Help understanding this hook up
Hello All, my wife and I recently became home owners for the first time. Our house was built in 1988 and the previous multiple owners didn’t care for it much. I started the process of replacing the GFCI’s because most had power but the safety function was giving readings of 6.00 sec which meant they weren’t working as intended from what I understand / know.
When I went to change it I noticed they were wired really weirdly. Essentially the blue box had 2 wires coming into the GFCI. One set of wires had white and black, and the other set had only 1 wire which was ground. They were hooked into the line port of the GFCI. Then there was a U shape wire connected from the LINE to the LOAD. This threw me off as it didn’t make much sense. What does this mean? Could there be another circuit that this GFCI is controlling or was it hooked up incorrectly by previous owners ?
Thanks a bunch in advance for the help!
