2008 Gibson SG Standard for $1200? Help me buy my first SG, please!

Looking at buying this 2008 Gibson SG Standard locally and wanted opinions from experienced SG owners on value, what to inspect, and whether anything here concerns you.

Seller is asking $1200.

Details:

  • 2008 SG Standard
  • 490R / 498T pickups
  • OHSC included
  • Seller says all original except truss rod cover
  • Says it had a Duesenberg trem on it at one point
  • Says neck/fretboard are clean, low action, no fret buzz
  • Describes neck as more rounded/50s feeling than slim 60s

Condition:

  • Heavy belt buckle rash on back
  • Sticker on back that I hate
  • Some dulling/scratches near bridge from prior trem install
  • Moderate overall player wear

I’m an experienced player (25 years), but NOT a luthier/tech, so I don’t fully trust myself to identify hidden guitar issues.

A few questions:

  1. Does $1200 seem fair given the condition/history?
  2. Would the previous Duesenberg trem installation concern you?
  3. Anything in these photos that raises red flags?
  4. What should I specifically inspect in person on a used SG?
  5. What are the biggest “walk away immediately” signs on older SG Standards?

Thank you so much!
