PR card not received, but need to travel for work

As the title says, I am waiting to receive my PR card and need to leave Canada next month for work.

eCOPR was issued 13th of May about a month later on family sponsorship (spouse).

15th June, I had to reupload an ID photo of myself as mine was deemed not to comply (although it was taken and deemed to be satisfactory for a UK passport and my actual PR application).

I know wait times can be up to 40 days. I need to travel for work to the US early next month. Clearly I have my eCOPR, but stamped all over it is that it is that it is not valid for travel.

I've heard of this Permanent Resident Travel Document, but apparently I would have to apply outside of Canada and I will only be away for 5 days, so likely wouldn't receive it in time to return and it seems a little risk.

I'm attempting to apply for "Urgency" - I have documents to prove I will be travelling for work related reasons, but the whole application seems be for a new PR card and angled at someone who hasn't just attained PR, questions like time spent outside of Canada, when I haven't since receiving my eCOPR.

I would really just want them to speed up the current application. I don't recall there being an option for urgency during my initial PR card application linked to my confirmation of PR in the PR portal, I definitely would've gone for that if so.

Any advice on my options please? Is the urgency application my only course of action? I did wonder that as I am returning from the states, if my eCOPR would be enough?? I presume I cannot just get an ETA as I would've usually done before becoming PR.

Thank you!

Hi all,

I recently had my Canadian permanent residency confirmed and awaiting my PR card, eCOPR received.

Whilst I had my PR application in process, I applied for an open work permit, so that I can work in Canada for a company in the UK. The new role would be set up through a firm in Canada so that I can be paid here, pay my taxes here and for tax liability and insurance purposes for the company.

I received an email today confirming that my open work permit application had been withdrawn, now that I have received PR. I was shocked to say the least....

In the letter it states:

"Our records now indicate that you have been granted Permanent Residence in Canada. As such, you are no longer eligible for temporary resident status and your application has been withdrawn."

Is this in error? Or am I to surmise from this that now I have PR, I no longer need a work permit because I am a permanent resident? Or do I need a different kind of work permit now that I am PR?

I'm nervous about this because I was months in to this work permit application and have been waiting before starting my new role.

Thank you!
