Built my first Bitaxe Gamma solo miner from scratch — zero experience, full honest build report including errors and fixes
Hey r/BitcoinMining,
Just completed my first ever Bitcoin
miner build and wanted to share the
full honest experience with this community.
The device: Bitaxe Gamma
Experience level going in: Zero
Soldering experience: None
Electronics knowledge: Basically none
But i did have help from a skilled colleague.
Here is the honest breakdown:
WHAT WENT WELL
→ Stenciling was learnable even for
a complete beginner
→ Component placement took patience
but was manageable
→ The baking process with a kitchen
oven actually works well with
a thermometer inside for precision
→ First boot setup screen came up
after firmware flash
WHAT WENT WRONG
→ First stencil attempt failed,
had to redo it
→ One component fell off during baking
→ Initial overheating at 70+ degrees
→ Got a hashrate failure error
after first boot
→ Had to remove and resolder
the ASIC chip entirely
WHAT FIXED IT
→ Hot air gun and flux fixed the
fallen component
→ Swapping the heat sink helped
with thermals
→ Removing ASIC chip, cleaning pads,
resoldering and reflashing newest
firmware fixed the hashrate failure
FINAL RESULT
Fully working Bitaxe Gamma hashing
on the Bitcoin network in a robot
case from Thingiverse.
It now sits on my shelf mining
Bitcoin
The whole journey is documented in
a 27 minute video if anyone wants
to follow along or use it as a
reference for their own build.

For anyone thinking about building
their own — it is absolutely doable
even with zero experience. Just budget
more time than you think you need
and have flux ready for everything.
