We’ve been transitioning our son from 2 naps to 1 nap for about two weeks now (day 15), and overall it’s been going better than I expected 🙂

At the beginning his naps were pretty short, but they’ve been gradually getting longer. We’re not at the 2.5–3 hour mark yet, but he’s consistently doing around 1h45–1h50, which I’m already really happy with.

He used to wake up quite early (around 5:30), and while he’s still on the early side, it’s slowly improving—now it’s more like 5:50 or close to 6.

Current rough schedule:

  • Wake: ~5:40–5:50 (I get him out of the crib at 7)
  • Nap: 11:30–1:30
  • Bedtime: 6:45 (asleep around 7)

Later on we had a “split night,” which we haven’t seen in a while. He woke up around 11pm, was calm and content (not crying), but clearly trying to fall back asleep. He was awake roughly from 11–1, then eventually fell back asleep on his own after a bit of fussing.

On days like this, he actually wakes later than usual—today it was around 6:30–6:40.

My question: do split nights like this usually point to being under-tired or over-tired? I’m not quite sure how to read it at this stage of the transition, and would love to hear how others handled it or what worked for you.
