Started my new job today and i think i was hired into a different job than the one they described
Not sure if i'm overreacting so just putting this out there.
Four rounds of interviews. I asked about team size, management style, hybrid setup, why the role was open. Got clear answers every time. Felt good about it.
Today i found out two people on the team quit last month. Nobody mentioned that. The manager i interviewed with and who i'd apparently be working closely with has been on leave since February. The person who showed me around today had been there three weeks himself and kept saying "i think it's through here" about the building.
The hybrid policy is technically as described in the sense that nobody told me i had to be in five days. But i got there at nine, which is when they told me to arrive, and the look i got from a few people suggested nine was maybe not the right nine. Nobody said anything. Just a look.
At 4pm someone forwarded me a calendar invite for a scoping meeting next thursday for the project i was hired to lead. So that's not scoped yet. Good to know on day one.
I'm not spiraling, first days are messy and i've started jobs before that looked rough on day one and turned out fine. But i'd be lying if i said i felt great on the drive home.
Has anyone started somewhere that felt like this and it actually settled into something decent? becuase i could use some data points right now.
