What pre-2000s Anime do you own on Blu-Ray/DVD?

I've been really into retro Anime lately and I'm curious what you own.

For Blu-Ray, I own:

Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki films:

  • The Castle of Cagliostro (1979)
  • Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (1984)
  • Castle in the Sky (1986)
  • My Neighbour Totoro (1988)
  • Grave of the Fireflies (1988)
  • Kiki's Delivery Service (1989)
  • Only Yesterday (1991)
  • Porco Rosso (1992)
  • Ocean Waves (1993)
  • Pom Poko (1994)
  • Whisper of the Heart (1995)
  • Princess Mononoke (1997)
  • My Neighbours the Yamadas (1999)

Non-Ghibli Anime films:

  • Patlabor: The Movie (1989)
  • Venus Wars (1989)
  • Patlabor 2: The Movie (1993)
  • Macross Plus: Movie Edition (1995)
  • Memories (1995)
  • Martian Successor Nadesico: Prince of Darkness (1998)

TV Shows/OVAs:

  • Future Boy Conan (1978)
  • Bubblegum Crisis OVA (1987)
  • The Irresponsible Captain Tylor (1993)
  • The Irresponsible Captain Tylor OVA (1994)
  • Escaflowne (1996)
  • Martian Successor Nadesico (1996)

On DVD (I'll lump all these together):

  • Sherlock Hound (1984)
  • Patlabor Early Days OVA (1988)
  • Oh My Goddess! OVA (1993)
  • Iria: Zeiram the Animation OVA (1994)
  • Trigun (1998)

I've ordered You're Under Arrest OVA and Bubblegum Crash both on DVD and I will be getting Serial Experiments Lain (1998) and Mobile Suit Gundam Movie Trilogy (1981-1982) both on Blu-Ray for Christmas, so you could technically add those to the list too. I'm sure there's a bunch of retro Anime that you would ask, wait, you don't have "so-and-so" Anime? It's because I haven't seen them fully.

What are your top 3 favourite Anime episodes of all time?

You can give a brief overview as to why you think they're so amazing, like the animation, music, character development and emotions being top tier, but without saying what happens in them.

There are my top 3 Anime episodes:

  1. Clannad After Story - Episode 18: Obviously, many of you know why this episode is so amazing. The emotions, the character development, the dialogue, the music and the last few minutes make this an absolute powerhouse of an emotional experience.
  2. My Hero Academia - Season 8 - Episode 3: This for me is the peak of the entire show and it was an absolutely spectacular watch, from the thrilling, adrenaline pumping and vibrant animation, the massive stakes, the sweeping and exhilarating score by Yuki Hayashi and the way it makes you go heck yes and grin with a huge smile on your face is so awesome.
  3. Re:Zero - Season 1 - Episode 18: I absolutely love Re:Zero, but even the amazing season 4 so far has still yet to top this episode for me. The sheer honesty, transparency, dialogue, emotion, music and character development is so top tier, it's almost a crime. It's almost completely dialogue and yet it's still absolutely amazing.

What older Anime are you watching?

I'm currently watching Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex for the first time. I'm on episode 15 of the 1st season and I'm really digging the sci-fi aesthetic, the futuristic tone and the laughing man case is really interesting so far. I've heard it gets really great as the story progresses, so I can't wait for that.

The Major is easily one of the coolest female Anime characters ever too.
