Some pricing advice for music commission?

I'm a college student working on an animated short film this summer, and I'd really like to not have to worry about copyrights, so I'm planning to commission some scoring/music for the film. It's likely going to be 2-3 minutes max, and I'd prefer a classical composition (I don't know ANYTHING about music) with a shift in moods as the events in the story change (as opposed to a constant "background" music).

As an artist, I'm well aware that creative commissions can (and should!) come out to be much more expensive than you expect, but the world of music is totally foreign to me. How much should I be ready to pay for a 2-3 minute composition? I'm working off of a small grant, but am worried even so that I'm totally under-prepared.

Obviously, I'm not expecting anything super high-end or professional, but I am hoping for the music to carry the animation (not planning a lot of dialogue/voice acting). Also I don't even have a storyboard right now, so I'm not hiring yet--just looking for advice! Thank you so, so much!

(and I'm so sorry if this is the wrong place to post this!)
