I’m an in-state transfer student who is debating between UCSD and UCLA. My career path as of now is likely medicine, possibly PA pathway but still open to anything else that is medicine adjacent.

I was admitted to Eighth College as a Neurobiology major. Although I think UCSD is a really nice campus with a beautiful area in San Diego, my financial aid offer wasn’t as good as UCLA.

I’d like some insight as to what the environment is like at UCSD/UCLA. How is the rigor of academics (grade deflation?). How’s the social life? Please share any important information about your experiences!

I’m still finding my niche, but I know I’m capable of doing upper division course work as my science grades are very strong.

I was admitted to:

UC Davis (Neurobiology)

UC Irvine (TAG; Biological Sciences)

*UCLA (Human Biology and Society. Alternate: Neuroscience)

Really wish I applied under their physiological sciences major but I missed this major in ASSIST despite looking through all the majors like crazy. Hopefully I can change that now that I’m admitted.

UCSD (Neurobiology. Alternate: Bioinformatics)

Pillars for a decision

1. Cost
2. *GPA Protection
3. Location

*This has some wiggle room. GPA protection is something that’s a bit hard to gauge sometimes since people have different opinions on grade deflation/inflation being real or not. I’d especially like some insight on this with regard to UCLA.

Cost of Attendance ranked

1. UCLA is the cheapest.
2. UCSD
3. UCI
4. UCD is the most expensive.

I have visited every campus before, and I’m going to take another look at each one once the semester is over.
