Hey everyone,
This is my first ever Reddit post! I wondered if the people of Reddit could help me in the midst of my millennial career crisis as I’m really stuck and have limited knowledge of the wide array of jobs that exist.
I have been working as a Sales Director for an estate agents in London for over a decade.
I’m 35 years old, female and live on the outskirts of London. I desperately need a change after jumping off the hamster wheel. I am currently recovering from burnout and would like to avoid jumping into a career that’s going to leave me in the same position where I’m working long hours and highly stressed.
I was training to be a primary school teacher in what feels like a different life but this but that wasn’t for me and Estate Agency is the only job I’ve ever known. I’m great with people, at building rapport and negotiating but it’s time for a change from this industry.
I have ADHD and I hated sitting at a desk all day for 11-13 hours. The job was incredibly stressful and ended up negatively affecting my health.
Ideally I want to work 4 days a week or 5 if I have to but 9-5 max and no weekends. I’ve worked weekends for 12 years and I’m not prepared to do that again.
I don’t want to commute into London as I get anxious in crowded spaces but I am happy to drive.
I was considering starting a career in tech sales but before I do that I want to see if anyone has some inspiring ideas because that is probably not my dream job. It’s a change and change is something I need now but I know it won’t be hugely fulfilling.
I considered becoming a nurse for a hot second but I don’t want to go to university and I need to go to bed early 😂
I am passionate about exercise and nutrition and I like the idea of being a personal trainer who works with women to help them to train strength and mobility and maybe even educate about nutrition but I am not in a position to train for that right now, I need to get a job that starts paying straight away. I can always do training on the side as a back up plan.
I’m wondering if I’m missing something. With my experience what jobs do you think could be a good fit? I’m happy to work remotely or hybrid. Remote work sounds amazing but I learn best from people, in person.
I like working with people, I’m creative and hardworking, I like routine but will die inside if I’m bored doing something monotonous each day.
The appeal of tech sales is that the career and salary progression can be incredible. I have multiple friends who have done incredibly well and so I have great contacts in the industry but I’d love to hear ideas of jobs that can earn anywhere from £30,000 a year to £300,000.
I know I’m not the only one in this position. So many people my age are looking for renewed meaning, change and a slower pace of life but it’s a minefield out there.
I believe there is a near perfect fit for everyone when it’s comes to jobs, it’s just difficult to work out what it is!
Thank you so much!
I’m excited to hear any ideas 💡
