First time in Guatemala — 2 weeks, does this itinerary work?
Hi all! My partner and I are planning a 2-week trip to Guatemala at the end of May into early June. Here's our current itinerary:
Day 1–2: Stay in Flores, visit Tikal and Yaxhá
Day 3: Bus from Flores to Antigua
Day 4: Explore Antigua
Day 5–6: Acatenango overnight trek
Day 7: Explore Antigua → bus to Xela
Day 8–10: Trek from Xela to Lake Atitlán
Day 11–13: Explore Lake Atitlán
- Do you think it's doable, or are we biting off more than we can chew? If it's too ambitious, which locations or activities would you cut?
- Has anyone done the trek from Xela to Lake Atitlán? We're especially excited about it since we loved hiking the Camino and are hoping for a similar cultural immersion experience . We would love any tips or operator recommendations.
- May is rainy season, what does that actually look like on the ground, and would it impact any of our plans?
- We love nature, hiking, local art, and the architecture and vibrancy of cities. Any hidden gems or tips for any of these stops?
