Workload doubled, staffing issues, delayed occupational health?
Hi everyone! I would be very happy for feedback on the situation I’m in as I’ve never had this issue, been employed within this role for 1 year 8 months.
I’ve recently been signed off due to stress and flare-ups from an ongoing medical condition I’m under specialist treatment for at the hospital, was diagnosed with this before my employment started and my employer was OK with this with risk assessments etc in place due to the condition and medication.
Over time my workload increased massively due to staffing shortages and hiring freezes, going from supporting one branch to helping cover multiple branches across the UK whilst still being expected to hit the same objectives.
I repeatedly raised concerns with management about workload and pressure, and they acknowledged it themselves, but the response was basically “we’re on a hiring freeze, you can manage it.” I even started cutting lunches short just to keep up with the workload.
On top of that, I’ve worked remotely for most of my employment, but now there’s suddenly pressure to return to the office even though my actual wider team is based in the South whilst I’m in the North, meaning I’d still be working alone anyway.
Another issue is the CRM/system doesn’t properly reflect a lot of the work and extra responsibilities I’ve been doing, so it now feels like I’m being judged off incomplete data despite raising this multiple times.
Occupational Health was discussed over a month ago and still hasn’t happened despite me chasing HR repeatedly. This is because I am being told to attend northern office 4x a week compared to being remote due to medical fitness. So my remote working in someway shape and form has been taken away. This has caused me to be ill/stress further and work has not been supportive as its come from management for team collaboration.
Communication has honestly been awful — I’m lucky to get one reply a week and my questions around adjustments, support returning to work, and even pay whilst signed off are mostly being ignored.
I’ve tried to stay communicative and professional throughout, but I genuinely feel mentally exhausted, unsupported, and like I’m being pushed out after finally raising concerns.
Has anyone else experienced something similar?
