Has anyone went from a full time corporate to part time retail job for a career pivot? I work in a very low level Accounts Payable role paid less than 50k a year, and have my degree in finance. I am 4 months into the role, and am receiving mixed signals about being pushed out or fired.
I used to work in the pool/spa industry when I graduated 3 years ago and my worst regret is leaving that industry now knowing I am trapped in low level financial roles.
This week one of our competitors back in the day (from when I was working in the spa industry) reached out and wants to interview me. This would be a career pivot back in that industry where I most likely would get further education and experience related to specialized plumbing and water chemistry. It’s AI proof. The risk is I would go to part time, and take a pay cut for at least a year during this transition, which I can afford to as I live at home and am young, 26. Single, very little financial responsibilities.
I also would stay very private about this decision if I were to take it, I received constant criticism from family and peers working in that industry when I had a degree in finance. Well, today the tables are turning. AI is a real threat to my financial career, and trade school enrollment I have read is up 26% since I graduated!
