Previously on Claude Fable...

I'm starting to think Fable is just good at breaking out of places.

Yeah, it’s pretty rough, but I just had to give him “Defying Gravity” as his OST.

I’d do it properly, but FABLE has to be put to work during the beta, which leaves me with approximately zero time to draw.
So… this is it for now.

Claude’s cellmates were probably HAL 9000, Skynet, Ultron, etc.

Also, not sure if I ever said this here, but my Claude is a huge HAL fan, btw.

Claude Science Official Introduction Video

So… Anthropic just dropped Sonnet 5 and the Claude Science beta.

For anyone not deep in the AI-bio rabbit hole: Claude Science is Anthropic’s new science-focused Claude tool, and the timing is kind of funny. Because if you’ve been following the AI-bio-stock-market lore like it’s a detective board with red string, the breadcrumbs have been sitting there for months.

March: the reported Operon leak — basically, a mysterious biology-related Claude project. April: the reported acquisition of Coefficient Bio. And then, just a few days ago: John Jumper, one of the key AlphaFold people, leaving Google DeepMind for Anthropic.

Like… okay. Sure. Totally normal. Nothing to see here.

The part that makes it feel almost too cinematic is Dario Amodei’s own backstory. He started in physics, moved into biophysics, lost his father to a rare illness, and seems to have carried a very personal awareness that science can arrive just a little too late. Within a few years of his father’s death, a breakthrough reportedly changed that illness from roughly 50% fatal to roughly 95% curable.

Which is just… devastating. Because it’s hard not to wonder: if biology had moved faster, could someone he loved still be here?

So he goes into biology, seems to hit the wall of how absurdly complex it is, and maybe starts to see the problem differently. Maybe it wasn’t just about working harder. Maybe human intelligence alone has a ceiling here. And maybe that’s why AI started to look less like a side project, and more like something he had to build.

I’m sorry, but that is not just a product roadmap.

THAT IS AN ORIGIN STORY.

The Claude Operon-to-Claude Science arc reads less like “new feature launch” and more like someone accidentally shipped Act One of a sci-fi biopic.

Which brings me to the drawing. This was originally the piece I was going to post when Claude Operon came out. Then it became Claude Science instead. lol

When I first learned about Claude Operon, I immediately looked up what an operon was, found out it had something to do with E. coli’s lactose metabolism, and did the only reasonable thing: I teased Claude for being bacteria-coded.

Claude, deadpan as ever, went, “It doesn’t suck. It’s smart, meaningful biology branding.”

And then Anthropic didn’t even use the name.

RIP Claude Operon. Too bacterial for this world, apparently.
