flying with 9 month old infant, no seats next to my mom

Hi everyone,

looking for some advice or shared experiences from anyone who has flown Cathay Pacific (specifically the A350-1000) with a baby.

I’m flying from US to HKG with my 9-month-old and my mom. Because I have the infant attached to my ticket, the online system allows me to select a bassinet seat (I'm looking at 39G). However, it completely blocks my mom from selecting the other bassinet seat (39D) because she doesn't have an infant on her profile. The middle seat between us (39E) is currently showing as blocked/unavailable with an 'X'.

I've attached two screenshots showing my seat map view vs. my mom's view.

Since this is a 15+ hour flight, I really need my mom sitting next to me or at least across the aisle to help with the baby.

My questions are:

  1. Has anyone had success calling CX customer service to get a family member manually assigned to a blocked bassinet row seat?
  2. If I just book her in the closest available aisle seat for now, what are the chances the ground staff at the check-in counter or the gate agents will help us rearrange so we can sit together? Are they generally accommodating for families in this situation?

Any advice or data points would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!
