Is Nagatoro Season 3 Coming? A Deep Dive Into the 5th Anniversary Campaign
Disclaimer: This is an analysis of publicly available information, not an announcement or a leak. Season 3 has not been officially confirmed. The purpose of this post is to look at the current evidence objectively, including the arguments against the Season 3 theory.
________________________________________________
- Why are we even talking about Season 3?
- The interesting part is not one individual event.
- It is the combination of several things happening around Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro during its 5th anniversary year.
- On July 10, King Records officially announced a large anniversary campaign including:
- All 24 anime episodes being temporarily available on YouTube.
- A new anniversary illustration by Nanashi.
- Anniversary comments from the main cast.
- Worldwide streaming of 14 character songs that had previously not been available through subscription services.
- Several NAGATORO SUPER LIVE Anileap takeovers.
- None of this confirms Season 3.
- However, it raises a legitimate question:
- Why is a series that had been relatively quiet for a long time suddenly receiving this much coordinated attention?
- That is the question this post is trying to examine.

- The timeline
July 10
King Records announces the 5th anniversary campaign.
July 17
Episodes 1–3 of Season 1 receive an early YouTube premiere.
July 24
The full Season 1 marathon begins.
It is scheduled to remain available until August 24.
August 7
Season 2’s marathon begins.
It remains available until September 7.
August 8–10
The first NAGATORO SUPER LIVE Anileap takeover takes place.
August 21–24
The second scheduled Anileap takeover takes place.
September 4–7
The third scheduled takeover takes place.
This means that the campaign does not simply stop around the anniversary itself.
It continues into September.

- The YouTube marathons
King Records is temporarily making both seasons available.
Season 1 runs from July 24 to August 24.
Season 2 runs from August 7 to September 7.
This is not simply a random fan upload. It is an official KING AMUSEMENT CREATIVE YouTube operation.
The interesting part is that the anime is already available through legal streaming services in different regions.
So why put both seasons on YouTube now?
If a new season were coming relatively soon, having people watch Season 1, then Season 2, rediscover the series and potentially hear about a new announcement would make perfect marketing sense.
However, there is an important counterargument.
A 5th anniversary is already a perfectly legitimate reason to make the old episodes temporarily available.
Therefore, the marathon itself does not confirm Season 3.
At most, it is an interesting promotional choice.

- The character song album
King Records also announced worldwide streaming of 14 character songs that had previously not been available through subscription services.
We should be careful here.
These are not necessarily new songs created for Season 3. They are largely existing Nagatoro material being made more accessible now.
Therefore, we should not claim that King Records prepared 14 new songs for Season 3.
There is currently no evidence for that.
The interesting question is instead:
Why make previously restricted Nagatoro music widely available during this particular anniversary campaign?
Again, this is interesting, but it is not proof of Season 3.
__________________________________________________
- Anileap and the counterargument
At first, the repeated Nagatoro Anileap takeovers could look like one of the stronger clues.
However, there is an important counterargument.
King Records also uses Anileap for other franchises.
This means that Anileap activity by itself cannot be considered evidence of a new Nagatoro season.
This is an important correction to the theory.
Anileap alone is weak evidence.
The more interesting question is whether the Anileap events become more meaningful when combined with everything else:
The anniversary campaign.
The two season marathons.
The character songs.
The new illustration.
The cast comments.
The increased official activity.
The campaign continuing into September.
The argument is not that Anileap proves Season 3.
The question is whether the entire campaign suggests something more than a normal anniversary celebration.

- The voice actors
King Records officially published anniversary comments from the main cast.
This generated a lot of excitement because some fans interpreted certain messages as enthusiasm about returning to their roles.
However, we need to be careful.
There is a huge difference between a voice actor saying that they loved playing their character and would like to do it again, and a voice actor saying that they are returning for Season 3.
The first is enthusiasm.
The second would be confirmation.
We do not currently have that confirmation.
Therefore:
The cast clearly still has affection for the series.
Their willingness to return is interesting.
But their anniversary comments do not confirm Season 3.

- Nanashi
Another interesting element is the new anniversary illustration.
Nanashi produced a new Nagatoro illustration for the anniversary.
This confirms that Nanashi is still participating in the anniversary promotion.
However, Nanashi drawing Nagatoro does not mean that he is confirming Season 3.
Nanashi is the manga creator, not the person who independently decides whether a new anime season gets produced.
A potential new season would involve the relevant rights holders, production committee and production partners.
Therefore, the argument “Nanashi is active again, so he must be preparing Season 3” is too simplistic.
_________________________________________________
- Could Season 3 already be in production?
This is where the speculation becomes much more interesting.
One highly invested fan believes that the current campaign looks less like a project starting from zero and more like a campaign designed to put Nagatoro back into the public consciousness.
Their theory is that Season 3 may already have been in production for some time, potentially since 2025, and that the anniversary campaign could be the marketing warm-up before an eventual announcement.
However, the fan themselves clearly presented this as speculation.
There is currently no direct evidence proving that production started in 2025.
We currently have:
No confirmed Season 3 studio.
No confirmed Season 3 director.
No production document.
No animator publicly attached to Season 3.
No credible insider leak.
No official production announcement.
Therefore, the claim that Season 3 has been in production since 2025 remains speculation.
It is an interesting possibility, but it cannot currently be presented as fact.
______________________________________________
- Why the theory is still interesting
Imagine that a production committee wanted to announce a final Nagatoro season.
The anime has been relatively quiet for a long period.
Suddenly, they:
Bring the anime back onto YouTube.
Make both seasons accessible.
Release previously restricted songs.
Publish new artwork.
Involve the cast.
Increase activity on the official account.
Run several music events.
Continue the campaign into September.
From a marketing perspective, this could make perfect sense as a re-engagement campaign.
Old fans are reminded about the series.
New viewers can discover it.
People start talking about Nagatoro again.
Then a new season could potentially be announced.
However, the exact same campaign could also be explained by a simple 5th anniversary celebration.
That is why the theory cannot be considered proven.
______________________________________________
- The strongest argument against the Season 3 theory
This is probably the most important counterargument.
King Records itself describes these activities as part of the 5th anniversary celebrations.
The fact that King Records also runs substantial anniversary campaigns for other properties means that we cannot automatically interpret every Nagatoro event as preparation for Season 3.
Someone saying:
“This is simply an anniversary campaign.”
would therefore have a completely reasonable argument.
A serious investigation has to acknowledge this.
__________________________________________________
- Why does the campaign continue into September?
This is one of the more interesting parts of the timeline.
The anniversary itself is not in September.
Yet the campaign continues through:
August 24: Season 1 marathon ends.
September 4–7: Anileap takeover.
September 7: Season 2 marathon ends.
This creates a very clear endpoint.
There are several possible explanations.
The first possibility is that nothing special is planned and the anniversary activities were simply scheduled over several months.
The second possibility is that the organizers intentionally want to rebuild the audience before another announcement.
The third possibility is that something else is planned after September that we currently know nothing about.
At the moment, we cannot distinguish between these possibilities.
Therefore, September 7 is a date worth watching, but it is not a confirmed announcement date.

- The Japanese community
Another interesting aspect is that Japanese fans are directly experiencing much of this through:
The official X account.
YouTube live chats.
Japanese comments.
KAC’s official uploads.
Anileap events.
There is clearly still an active Japanese fanbase.
However, we should avoid another mistake.
Japanese fans believing Season 3 is coming does not mean that Japanese fans actually know Season 3 is coming.
Unless someone has genuine insider information, they are also speculating.
_______________________________________________
- Nanashi’s role in the anime
There is also an important misconception to clarify.
Nanashi is the creator of the manga.
He does not personally decide whether Season 3 begins production.
Anime production involves the relevant rights holders, production committee and production partners.
Therefore, Nanashi’s participation in the anniversary campaign is interesting, but it should not be interpreted as him secretly announcing a new season through hints.
________________________________________________
- Current evidence
Confirmed:
5th anniversary campaign.
Season 1 YouTube marathon.
Season 2 YouTube marathon.
14-song character album.
Multiple Anileap takeovers.
New Nanashi illustration.
Cast anniversary comments.
Increased official activity.
Campaign continuing into September.
Interesting but not conclusive:
The unusual amount of activity compared with the previous period of relative silence.
The two complete seasons being brought back to YouTube.
The previously restricted music being made widely available.
The repeated Anileap events.
The campaign continuing until September.
Currently unconfirmed:
Crunchyroll joining the production committee.
A Season 3 studio.
Season 3 production having started in 2025.
Any specific announcement date.
An official Season 3 production announcement.
_____________________________________________
- Three possible scenarios
Scenario A: Season 3 is already in production.
The anniversary campaign could be a marketing warm-up designed to rebuild attention before the announcement.
This would explain why there is so much effort being put into reactivating the franchise.
The problem is that there is currently no direct production evidence.
Scenario B: Season 3 is being prepared or was recently approved.
The campaign could be rebuilding attention while production gets underway.
This would explain why there is so much promotional activity without any publicly confirmed studio information.
Again, this remains speculative.
Scenario C: There is no Season 3.
King Records may simply have decided to give Nagatoro fans a large 5th anniversary celebration.
This is completely possible.
The existence of similar anniversary campaigns for other King Records properties makes this explanation impossible to dismiss.
______________________________________________
- What would actually convince us?
We are not looking for more vague clues.
We are looking for something concrete.
Strong evidence would include:
An official Season 3 announcement.
A Season 3 teaser or PV.
An official Season 3 key visual.
A confirmed studio.
Confirmed director or staff.
A production committee announcement.
Medium evidence would include:
A credible industry leak.
An animator explicitly mentioning the project.
A casting announcement.
A reliable production database update.
Weak evidence would include:
“I have a feeling.”
Anniversary artwork.
Another Anileap event.
Fans saying Season 3 is coming.
Nanashi posting Nagatoro.
Someone claiming they “heard something.”

- Conclusion
After looking at the evidence, we cannot honestly say that Season 3 is confirmed or even proven to be in production.
However, we also do not think it is unreasonable to be cautiously optimistic.
The interesting part is not any single event.
It is the combination of:
5th anniversary + both seasons temporarily available + previously restricted music becoming widely available + new Nanashi artwork + cast involvement + repeated Anileap events + unusually active official promotion + activity continuing into September.
That is enough to make the question legitimate.
But the strongest counterargument remains that King Records may simply be running a large 5th anniversary campaign, and similar promotional activity exists for other properties.
So our current position is:
Season 3 is plausible, but unconfirmed.
The theory that it has already been in production since 2025 is interesting, but currently unsupported by direct evidence.
An announcement after September 7 is a reasonable period to watch, but there is no confirmed plan for an announcement at that time.
For now, the best approach is cautious optimism. The campaign is clearly real and substantial, but only an official announcement or credible production information can confirm what it is ultimately building toward.
