Milos + ??

howdy fellow travelers! my partner and i are going to greece for 9 days this upcoming early october. it's our first time visiting.

we had originally planned to fly into athens and go to chania on crete first, and then go to milos. we chose this combo because we wanted to stay in a populated/busier area with more to choose from restaurant/bar wise, and then end the trip in a relaxed place just walking and enjoying the scenery, quiet beaches, and small tavernas.

something came up with our rental in chania and the dates are no longer available. i was disappointed at first, but i have realized this may be a blessing in disguise because the travel between chania and milos was proving to be challenging- the easiest commute i could find was flying back to athens and then flying to milos, and it was going to take up the better part of a day, not to mention the coordination of multiple flights. i would prefer to take a ferry from somewhere to milos (anything under 3 hours works well for us). we could fly or take a ferry from athens, we don't have a preference- we're primarily worried about getting between the first location and milos.

we're looking for fun and interesting food, but nothing too packed or overly touristy (looking to avoid santorini from what i've read). food and wine are our priority. we also are hoping to spend some time at the beach but not totally necessary as we plan to do this when in milos. paros and naxos have come up as possibilities, just wondering if anyone has any suggestions? thank you in advance 😄
