Stuck in 2nd Year Mechanical Engineering with a math backlog. Seriously considering dropping out to restart with B.Des. Am I making a mistake?
Hey everyone,
I’m currently a 2nd-year Mechanical Engineering student. To be completely honest, I have hit a massive wall with higher engineering mathematics and have a backlog in it. The abstract, symbol-heavy nature of calculus and differential tracking feels totally unnatural to my brain and is completely draining my mental health.
I’ve realized my strengths lean heavily toward visual and spatial thinking rather than abstract algebra. I am strongly evaluating dropping out of B.Tech entirely to reset as a 1st-year B.Des (Bachelor of Design) student. This would officially clear my engineering math backlog from my active record since it belongs to a completely different degree, but it means losing my progress and starting from scratch.
I really need some unfiltered advice from people who have made similar pivots, or anyone currently doing a B.Des in India.
