Question for current or former LADWP Electric Station Operators (ESO)
I’m trying to get a realistic understanding of the work-life balance before moving forward. What was your schedule like during the 2-year trainee period? Were trainees mostly on day shifts at first or did you rotate between days, swings, and graveyards right away? After becoming a regular ESO, how long did it take before you had enough seniority to consistently hold a day shift schedule? Are weekends and holidays mandatory for most operators? I enjoy traveling (usually one international trip a year) and camping several times a year, so I’m curious how difficult it is to get vacation time approved and maintain a healthy work-life balance. Any insight on the day-to-day work, schedule, overtime, and overall quality of life would be greatly appreciated.
