Independent agency question about producer roles and lead distribution

I’m a commission-only P&C producer at an independent agency. My role is primarily outbound sales, so I’ve always understood that networking and prospecting are my responsibility, and I’m okay with that.
However, there are times when I’m asked to spend several days in the office to provide sales coverage while another employee is out or while new staff are being trained. During those periods, I’m obviously not spending that time networking or prospecting.
My question is: in agencies you’ve worked for, when outbound producers are asked to provide office coverage, how are inbound opportunities (walk-ins, phone calls, website leads, etc.) typically handled?
Is it common for those opportunities to go to the producers covering the office, or are they often held for a designated inbound producer once that person returns?
I’m not trying to argue that anyone is entitled to leads. I’m just trying to understand what’s typical in the independent agency world, because I’m still relatively new to the industry.
