Vivi and Cardan’s relationship

I'm curious about what type of relationship they might have had?

It was mentioned that vivi went swimming once with Cardan and Rhyia. I'm wondering who invited Cardan and why he was with them. Was it his sister or vivi?

Also vivi gave him a gift after being thr high king and he kept it. And in htkoelths they joked about madoc's situation in the human world.

I'd love to read your opinion or hc or even interpretation!

Does he want her by his side or does he want the opposite?

In case it's not clear, the annotation says: though they can't lie, they can say pretty much anything in the form of a question.

I'm afraid I didn't understand what holly wante to add to the scene by her annotation. Can someone please explain?

Part2: Why didn’t cardan stand up for jude

Hi guys! Earlier I made a post with the same title. I had questions regarding Cardan’s behaviour and one of my biggest question was about the fruit scene. A lot of you offered me kind and amazing answers. For my surprise I found that one of tfota editions has holly blacks official annotations!!! Where she especially annotated this scene! So I'm posting them in case you're curious. A lot of you answered me very similarly to holly's annotations. However, it's always refreshing to read the canon stuff.

And officially: my problem with this scene is solved! Yay <:

The Faes aging

I'm not sure if I understood the whole thing correctly so I'm going to write it down and waiting for someone to tell me if what I understood is correct or not.

So basically humans are "mortals" and it's mainly because their lifespan is short. Not because they die, since Faes and humans both can die.

But for the Faes I don’t understand the aging system. In a lot of official works for HB series it's obvious that some Faes are older than others. So I'm assuming that the Faes do actually age but it's just really really really slow compared to us? Also madoc said while the Folk don't die from age, they can grow weary with it, and I'm not sure the I understood that. Madoc said that Eldred was going to neverland or smth like that and Jude said it was their way to take about death. So Eldred was eventually going to die? (I knew he was being poisoned slowly but that was an info madoc didn't know by then)

Also what is the difference between the Folk and the Gentry

I miss Elfhame

That's simply it. I just miss my babies so much, the book hangover for this series is so real. It's been twon months and I'm still in love with them 😭 I really hope if there was more of Cardan to read I love him specifically so much

Jude and Cardan marriage scene

Hi guys! During the marriage scene it was mentioned that flowers bloomed in the room. Was this something Cardan did intentionally or unintentionally or wasn't it even because of Cardan and it's just from the land?

Also I'd like to hear your headcanons about the type of flowers that bloomed! I love flowers language and symbols so I'd love to read your opinions!

Why didn't Cardan stand up for jude

First of all to make things clear: I love Cardan so much. However; there's a few moments that I dislike and I can't shake it out of my head

  1. Why didn't Cardan do anything in the apple scene?

That scene was one of the most uncomfortable scenes to read, and jude being in her underwear was so humiliating. I don't care that it's common for the faes. It was humiliating for jude and that's it. I know Cardan wasn't that sure about his feelings at that point, but it's.. idk you were interested in her somehow so why didn't you do anything? Ok I'd be ok with him not doing anything but he actually participated in her humiliation and ASKED HER TO KISS HIS FEET and tell him how great he is?

  1. Queen of mirth scene? I know he asked her to go to the castle, but I mean he could've asked her more? Or find a way to stop that without showing interest in her? Or I don't know.. but when I first read it I was so made at him because I felt he didn't really try to prevent the whole thing from happening (he did try but he could try harder?)

What did Cardan mean?

“The Council wants Locke to arrange some amusement to please Grimsen. If it’s nice, perhaps the smith will make you a cup that never runs out of wine.” Cardan gives me a look up through his lashes that I find hard to interpret and then rises, too. He takes my hand. “Nothing is sweeter,” he says, kissing the back of it, “but that which is scarce.”

What was Cardan talking about and what did he mean? Lol I was rereading this chapter and that was the first time I noticed this scene

Also in the same chapter when he commanded everyone to go out this happened:

“But, Your Majesty,” begins a girl. She’s all cream and gold, in a light blue gown. Long pale antennae rise from the outer edges of her eyebrows. “Surely such dull news as your seneschal brings will require the antidote of our cheer.”

“I am sure I will call you back swiftly enough,” Cardan says

He can’t lie, so was he really having fun with her and really wanted her to come back once jude leaves?

Nevermore and golden/silver shimmers

Sooo, I don't know how I misunderstood that but my stupid self thought that whenever a silver/gold paint was mentioned it meant that the person wearing it was using nevermore 😭 And then I read somewhere that the faeries use glitter and I feel like I've been understanding the whole thing in a wrong way

So my questions are:

the golden/silver paint on the cheekbones isn't the same as nevermore?

Does all faeries (male/female) use it? Or it's just a Cardan thing?
