Let’s Talk About Our Favorite Shop for MRP Hauls /s
Nowadays, we’ve been seeing a lot of people posting about their MRP hauls, which is actually a good thing. It promotes the hobby and encourages new collectors who are interested in getting into Hot Wheels.
However, lately, I’ve noticed something that has made me question how some of these MRP hauls are happening.
Whenever someone posts an MRP haul and people ask where they got the cars from, one name that comes up again and again is Orissa Cycle Toy Box.
So, let’s talk about some points regarding this shop.
First of all, I have nothing against the shop itself. If you’re not specifically hunting for hype castings, I’d actually say this is a decent place to look for Hot Wheels. They usually have a variety of mid-level castings that are often ignored by collectors who only focus on popular models. They also have other official die-cast brands, including Hot Wheels mainlines, Silver Series, Premiums, Majorette and Matchbox.
But there are certain things I’ve personally noticed and heard from other collectors that I think are worth discussing.
The hyped casting situation
- From what I’ve observed, there are people associated with the shop who appear to have a different system when it comes to certain hyped castings.
- You might get a restock notification and reach the shop within minutes, only to be told that someone has already come and purchased the hyped casting.
- But sometimes, if you specifically ask about a missing casting, you may be told to wait. If there is a crowd, you might have to wait until things settle down. If there isn't much of a crowd, you may be taken aside and shown some of the castings that weren't available on the pegs.
This is where things start becoming questionable.
- According to what I've personally observed, some of these transactions may happen separately from the normal billing process at the counter. If certain staff members are handling the transaction directly, you may be asked to pay them instead, while the regular mid-castings on the pegs are paid for at the counter.
- I'm sharing this because I think collectors deserve to know what they're getting into, rather than blindly assuming that every "MRP haul" posted online happened through the same process.
What about the bills?
- Another thing I've noticed recently is that some buyers aren't receiving proper bills for their purchases.
- Many stores provide a bill or at least send the bill through WhatsApp, so I personally feel that having some proof of purchase is important—especially when someone is posting an MRP haul publicly.
- I'm not saying everyone needs to publicly reveal their payment history. It's your money and your personal information.
- But if someone is making a claim about getting a particular hyped casting at MRP, then having a bill or some form of purchase proof would at least make the claim more credible.
The new combo scheme
- Another thing I've heard about is certain hyped castings apparently being offered as part of a 1+6 combination, where you have to purchase additional fantasy or less-desired castings to get the one you actually want.
- I've also heard of hyped castings being offered separately for prices somewhere around ₹300–₹600. Personally, I don't consider that an MRP deal. If someone is willing to pay that amount, that's their choice, but it shouldn't be presented as a genuine MRP haul.
My overall opinion
To be clear, I'm not saying the entire shop is bad.
If you're looking for regular or mid-level castings and aren't specifically chasing hype models, Orissa Cycle Toy Box can actually be a decent place to check. They have a good variety of official die-cast brands such as like Hotwheels (mainline, silver series, 5packs, premium), Majorette & Matchbox and that's something I appreciate.
My concern is specifically about the way certain hyped castings are allegedly being handled and how some transactions are taking place.
I also don't want this post to turn into a personal attack against the shop or its employees. I'm simply sharing what I've observed and what I've heard from collectors.
If you have personally experienced something similar—or if you have a completely different experience with this shop—feel free to share it in the comments.
Let's keep the discussion respectful and stick to actual experiences rather than rumours or personal attacks.
I'll also be sharing more posts like this about different stores and the experiences collectors have with them.
