Help me find my chilhood favorite book : Jules le chat/Jules the cat

I’m looking for a children’s picture book from the late 1980s or 1990s.
It was a large illustrated picture book with very little text.

The story was about a small black or black-and-white kitten that gets taken in by a family living in a modern city apartment, probably meant to feel like New York.

The whole story was shown from the kitten’s point of view / height, so you never really saw the adults’ faces — mostly their legs or bodies.
The kitten was terrified of the vacuum cleaner, which was depicted like a realistic monster.

The art style looked a bit like Felix the Cat: thick black outlines, cartoon style, possibly nighttime blue city colors.

At the end, the kitten becomes friends with the family’s young son (I remember dark hair, loose jeans, black T-shirt), and realizes they share the same name — I think it may have been “Jules” in French, possibly Julian or Julius in English.

The ending was very gentle and emotional. Please help I really loved this book !
