Is Carbon even necessary?
My first few racket builds were carbon blades (money wasted). I was not skilled enough to use a carbon blades. I eventually settled into an all wood blade (Nittaku Violin) in which has been a phenomenal piece of equipment for me. Most of the players I play against at the club level are using carbon blades. Never once have I felt as though their carbon blades created a speed advantage for them and never once have I felt like my blade (one that people complain about it being slow btw) has been too slow to win points.
I believe carbon is overhyped for the club level player and all wood blades are a better choice for most amateur players, unless you lack the physical strength to create speed.
Let me add that i do LOVE table tennis equipment and buying the new shiny gear is fun. But from a pure performance standpoint, it seems unnecessary and expensive for no real improvement, and may even be detrimental to the club players game.
