WHO says 1 in 4 young adults have depression/anxiety. In Kenya, Aga Khan/MoH said 25%.

But walk into any WhatsApp group ya campus mates. Everyone is "tired", "burnt out", "unmotivated". Feels like 80%.

Why?
We were raised for a Kenya that doesn’t exist anymore.

2000s: "Graduate and get a job"

2026: Graduate and become a "digital content creator" juu hakuna jobs.

We’re the "sandwich generation" taking care of parents + kids/siblings, while drowning ourselves.

So here’s my take: Stop telling us "kuwa strong". We’ve been strong since 2013. Maybe it’s time society was strong for us?

Hugs are good. But so is therapy kwa SHA, affordable rent, and jobs that pay more than 2010.

Question for the room:

1. Millennials, what’s your I’m not okay moment this month?
2. Everyone else, how do we fix this without vijana wafanye kazi?

Lessons from Juja, 2026

HELB ni loan, si lifestyle. Inakuwanga gone by week 3. Side hustle ndio survival.

1. Skills > Degree kiasi. Campus inakufunza theory. Vumbi ya Juja inakufunza thermal paste.
2. Comrades tunasaidiana. My first 5 clients walinilipa pole pole. Leo narepair laptop yao free wakistuck before exams.
3. Aibu itakuua. Nilikua naona aibu kufungua "kibanda" ya laptop. Saa hii landlord ananiita msee wa IT. Same me, different mindset.
