How do you handle reschedules that come in over text?
question for the studio teachers here who book everything through text/imessage with students and parents.
the part that quietly eats my time isn't the lessons, it's the reschedules. a parent texts "can we move tuesday this week" mid-afternoon and i end up scrolling back through the whole thread to remember what the original time even was, then re-typing a confirmation, then updating my calendar. the lesson is an hour but that little dance costs me ten minutes i never planned for.
recurring changes are the ones that scare me. moving a single lesson is fine, but "can we shift tuesdays going forward" means the whole chain has to update and i'm always half worried a slot silently vanishes or i overbook the next one. worst case i don't find out until a student texts asking where i was.
so genuinely curious how you all manage it:
- do you use a booking link, or does that not fit how parents actually text you?
- calendar straight from the thread, or a separate spreadsheet/notebook?
- how do you catch a double-book before it becomes a real kid standing in your doorway?
full disclosure, i'm building a little ios tool (ajiu) around exactly this pain, so i'm partly asking to sanity-check whether the re-reading tax is as universal as it feels or if i've just got a bad system. no link, not pitching, actually want to hear what works for people who've been teaching longer than i've been building.
