Me and my friend are beginners

Me and my friend are both 18, we want to start with mt but all the mt gyms nearby have one year deals, both of us will move in 6 months, so we think that it is better if we just buy the equipment and spar with eachother while watching youtube and such to learn. Any tips for us?
