6 month old bitting

6 month old bitting

My 6 month old is in full land shark mode and I need advice

So my golden is 6 months old and he's the sweetest boy in the world most of the time, but when he gets overly excited he goes into full biting mode, he bites legs, hands, the leash on walks, everything. And he makes this face like a snarl but doesn't actually growl.

On walks it's the worst. Sometimes something triggers it but honestly sometimes it seems completely random. I've started carrying rocks and sticks with me because he loves having something in his mouth and it distracts him, and he'll just happily trot along carrying his rock and forget he was a demon two seconds ago. I also sometimes ask him to sit and give him a treat to kind of reset his brain, and that works too. If nothing else works I'll pick him up and he calms down pretty quickly.

Inside, when he gets bitey (usually when he wants attention or to play) I've been hiding in another room or the closet until he calms down.

He finished teething a while ago so I know it's not that.

The biting really hurts and I'm worried I might be accidentally reinforcing it somehow. Will he grow out of it or is this something I need to actively train out of him? Any advice from people who've been through the land shark phase would be really appreciated.
