Feeling the strength/connection of the ancestors

Recently watched the movie Whale Rider and loved the themes of ancestors, nature, tradition, community, spirituality (Māori mana).

I also saw similar ones in the tv show Reservation Dogs (3rd pic).

Doesn’t need to be maternal based, I know these pictures are portraying mostly women.

Open to anything, though would also love Polynesian based recs since I’m Polynesian and have rarely read Polynesian authors/stories.

Books about connection with ancestors, tradition, nature, spirituality. (Moana/Whale Rider)

Watched the movie Whale Rider a couple weeks ago and loved the themes of ancestors, spirituality, tradition, and connection to nature. Looking for something with these themes (Māori mana vibes).

I’m Polynesian so would love any Polynesian based recs but I’m open to anything! I know these themes are present in cultures around the world.

I also enjoyed these themes in the tv show Reservation Dogs.

Here’s a definition of mana I got online.

“Mana is a foundational concept in Māori culture representing spiritual power, authority, prestige, and influence. It is believed to be a divine, enduring force that exists within people, places, and objects, directly tied to how one respects their community, environment, and ancestry”
