HELP I owe $10k due to medicare error
In 2025, I was unemployed until Jan 20, during which I collected unemployment and had Obamacare (aka medicare). My Covered CA portal was asking me to provide proof of lack of income (which would have been EDD paystubs) but since I was starting a new job, I did not upload EDD paystubs. Then I got a call about it, I remember it was a man, and I think he was from the regional medicare provider office in my area. I explained I am starting a job and will no longer need coverage, and he said ok great I will note that. I forgot all about this until I did my 2025 taxes this April and saw the 1095-A showing that I had medicare coverage for the whole year!!! It was never discontinued, and I never used it. And now I need to pay it back. I cannot afford to. Any suggestions? TYIA
edit: I clearly confused Medicare with ACA/Obamacare. I understand that calling it Obamacare is uncouth but it's for the sake of brevity
