Hey all,
I'm not an expert in the Dune-iverse, but one thing just got me wondering recently. Is there an in-universe explanation for why the Fremen were able to defeat all the other armies and such?
I get that they're more vicious than the feared Sardukar due to the harsh world they survived. But wouldn't they be at a severe disadvantage in having no experience/practice against forces that use shields?
(They won on Arakis at least in part, I figure, because the Sardukar and Harkonen forces were somewhat used to fighting with shields, but couldn't on that planet due to the shields "calling" sandworms).
Or were shields too expensive for use for "common" soldiers? If so, why aren't the soldiers using rifles/machine guns against each other (with bayonets for fighting vs officers)? Why are the common soldiers using swords too?
Ideas, thoughts, theories and speculation all welcome.
