Help With Nipping
Hi all. I'm a newcomer to this forum hoping I can get a bit of help. I'm not a first time dog owner but I'm stumped with what to do.
My husband and I have just adopted these two beautiful dogs from the shelter and we feel like we've lucked out with them for the most part. They're super cuddly, loving, and we can tell they have a little bit of training done.
One issue is jumping. One dog(f) has a bad habit of jumping on my husband as soon as he comes home from work, when he wakes up, and every time he puts her leash on. He's pretty fed up with the jumping. He's told her "no", he's turned away, I suggested waiting in a different room until shes calmed down but no matter how long hes in a different room, she will still jump.
The other issue is nipping. Our other dog(m) nips me pretty bad when we're playing. I've had dogs in the past that nip and I've done the "yelp when they nip/mouth" thing but it just encourages him. I have fresh bruises on my arm from his nips. Tonight was especially bad. I got up to get something from the kitchen and when I got back, he was on my seat. Nothing unusual, he's done it before. I tried moving him like Ive done but he went to nip at me again. My husband kicked him off the couch, but what can I do to stop the nipping permanently?
TL;DR: I've tried traditional methods to stop jumping and nipping and they're not working. What can I do?
Edit: I forgot to mention, they're both pointers about 1½ years old.
