My OCD kicks in whenever they add a new hero with some random title, rather than just stating who they are
Most recently, we received a hero most people probably like picking a lot, "Genn, Worgen King". I understand why they name cards this way, as it's just a pseudonym to reprint a character as a card when that character already exists. They do this for a lot of cards, in this example, "Genn Greymane" already exists as a card, and Deathwing notably has a lot of different cards with varying card names.
What really miffs me, and I might be all alone on this one, is when they use it for heroes in Battlegrounds. Why is "Genn, Worgen King" not just named after what the character's actual name is?? I get that the artwork is based off of the reprint, but the original card didn't even exist as a hero. Why isn't he named "Genn Greymane"? It sounds much better, is actually the character's name, and nobody even calls the hero anything different to begin with. It feels like they just picked a few legendaries from the new sets and ported everything over while changing whatever they needed to for it to work.
I made a list of hero names that really should just be the actual name of the hero, instead of including the (sometimes cringe) moniker that that specific version gave the card.
- Dinotamer Brann -> Brann Bronzebeard / Brann the Explorer (cause he exists as a card)
- E.T.C., Band Manager -> Elite Tauren Chieftain
- Forest Lord Cenarius -> Cenarius
- Genn, Worgen King -> Genn Greymane
- Murozond, Unbounded -> Murozond
- Thorim, Stormlord -> Thorim
- Time-Twister Chromie -> Chromie
- Yogg-Saron, Hope's End -> Yogg-Saron
Maybe you might not agree with me, but these monikers that are based off alternate versions of the same character help reinforce Battlegrounds as not being part of the actual main game. Also, I just think they sound better.
