Thessalonki City Break in August for a Foodie? Have I made an error..?

I have booked a holiday with my mum to Thessaloniki for my first time in Greece for one week from the 6th of August... I stupidly didn't research enough and now i'm reading online that loads of independent restaurants and coffee shops, bars etc. will be shut as the locals take their (well earned) holidays during this time. My question is - will there be nice places that are not tourist traps and with atmosphere to eat in for a foodie... we were planning on a week of eating and drinking with a few museums and now i'm concerned we may be disappointed. We can't refund the hotel or flights....
